Meet Justin L.F. Yong, MSED, LMHC,

Do you find yourself feeling like a cog in a machine, stuck in a joyless career? Do you feel like you’re moving through life on autopilot, unable to take meaningful action? Do you feel married to your work, but wish you had more time to spend with your loved ones?

My goal is to empower you to be more present for the moments and people that truly matter to you, and find equilibrium in your work and personal life. I provide individual therapy that is collaborative, warm, empathetic, and validating. I find joy in helping people who are ready to do the work. Together we’ll innovate and reimagine new ways of thinking so that you are more present and more aligned with what means most to you. Together, we’ll take you off autopilot and put you back in the driver’s seat.

I integrate elements of evidence-based mindfulness practices, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to equip you with practical tools and skills to help you find balance between work and play. I also draw from LGBTQIA+ Affirmative Therapy and Multicultural Counseling to curate a space that is safe and non-judgemental. Whether you’re a first-generation American struggling with acculturation or looking to cultivate deeper understanding of your identities, you’ll learn how to make meaningful change in mindful and meaningful directions that energize you.

In these truly unprecedented times, I also offer counseling for those who are grieving. Everyone has faced a loss, whether it’s the passing of a loved one or loss of meaning, direction, safety, or sense of feeling grounded. Grief is very much like a fingerprint. It manifests differently for everyone, but that doesn’t mean you have to go through it alone.

Think back to the last time you were given a chance to try something new but decided not to. You were likely nervous and hesitant, perhaps you were afraid of being judged or ashamed if you made a mistake. It’s normal to experience some of those same feelings in your search for your therapist. You’re being presented with another chance to try something new. My hope for you is that you’ll take a leap of faith.

If ever there was a place to be unprepared, it’s therapy. My hope for you is to arrive exactly as you are, because you are all you need for a space and time that is dedicated and personalized for you.

Think of therapy as a personal trainer for your mind. Often, people think that there has to be “something wrong” to see a therapist, which simply isn’t the case.

Just like with fitness that requires regular practice, therapy can help you gain the necessary skills to better maintain your emotional health. Therapy can help you identify and achieve your goals, align your values with your behaviors, and learn how to live more fully and authentically.

Regardless of the reason, your decision to seek out therapy is a step in a positive direction. If you’ve never been to therapy before, my hope for you is that you continue to keep an open mind to what therapy can do for you. Being vulnerable and opening up to a stranger takes courage.

My goal is to support you and make you feel at ease during this process. Our initial phone consultation is an opportunity for us to get to know each other, discuss your concerns and determine a plan of action if we choose to move forward together.
